What’s new: China’s General Administration of Customs has removed Covid-19 declaration requirements in its updated health declaration form that sought nucleic acid test results, previous Covid-19 infections and vaccination dates for people entering or leaving the country.

The ninth version of the form will be put into use on Aug. 31, according to a statement (link in Chinese) published by the customs authority. The changes aim to make it easier for travelers to pass through customs, the head of the authority’s port supervision department told reporters Friday, while stressing it was not a departure from “zero-Covid” stance.

The background: China has made a series of moves to ease restrictions on inbound travelers, with the customs health declaration form being the latest.

Chinese embassies in several countries, such as the U.S. and Japan, have issued statements allowing foreign nationals with valid Chinese residence permits for study or APEC business travel cards to enter China starting Wednesday, Bloomberg reported.

In June, at least five Chinese embassies around the world resumed processing family visit visas, after such services had been suspended for more than two years amid the global pandemic.
